How sustainable is a building? The answer is in employees’ health

A Healthcare organisation, with a presence in India and the Middle East, aimed to expand further in South India. They wanted to make the 93,000 sq ft, 100-bed hospital as sustainable. This required an expert approach, with JLL convening a team to deliver the best solutions to suit their needs.

We involved all stakeholders while evaluating the options that were efficient and cost-effective. Together, we identified a number of solutions to be integrated into the design of the building, ensuring high savings on energy. Measures included achieving the right glazing for the building façade, which optimized natural lighting and reduced solar gain; right-sized chillers, which increased the efficiency of air-conditioning; deploying only LED lights for the whole building. Meeting the client’s objectives, we included all the solutions in the design and implemented during construction.

JLL helped the client tackle water and waste - recycling wastewater and minimizing waste to landfill during construction. The outcome of all efforts combined was 40% energy savings and 30% water savings.

The success of a project rests in achieving beyond what’s written in the agreement. When the client received the GOLD rating – IGBC New Building Category, from Indian Green Building Council, it was a step going beyond expectations. It was an achievement for the hospital, and for us, it strengthened our relationship with the client.
