In the dynamic real estate landscape, sustainability has emerged as a pivotal factor impacting decision making amongst occupiers and industry leaders. In the fourth quarter of 2023, JLL conducted individual interviews with senior real estate leaders, whose combined lease area spans approximately 82 million square feet. The interviews aimed to get their viewpoint on how sustainability is perceived and prioritized within their immediate geographical and operational authority. The survey, conducted anonymously, sought to uncover the key areas of focus for real estate leadership in 2024, the challenges they anticipate, the progress they have made in their sustainability journey, the allocation of resources towards combating climate change, and the importance of environmental data management, including understanding their operational carbon footprint’s impact on their value chain.
As the global focus on environmental responsibility intensifies, this study aims to capture the nuanced strategies and considerations that occupiers deploy to integrate sustainability into their real estate portfolios.
