The role of Corporate Real Estate (CRE) leaders has evolved significantly, requiring them to become value drivers aligned with corporate objectives, not just business enablers. CRE must be both agile and strategic in response to changing organizational needs and shifting expectations.
JLL’s Future of Work 2024 global survey of over 2,300 CRE and business decision-makers, examines key priorities, challenges, and strategies in the evolving work environment. This report examines specific insights for India, basis the respondents for the country.
Indian organizations are striking a balance between flexibility and productivity. Nine out of ten surveyed companies require at least three days of office presence, among the highest globally. India also strongly advocates for a full 5-day work week, emphasizing the continued importance of physical workspaces despite remote work capabilities. CRE will be crucial in creating optimal workplace templates and supporting organizational growth objectives while preparing for the future.
Technology, particularly AI, is a major force in this transformation. The survey reveals rapid AI adoption, with 94% of respondents expecting AI to alter workforce operations and 95% planning increased AI investments within five years.

By 2030, 77% CREs foresee spend on sustainability performance to increase.
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations remain critical, with one-third of companies looking to CRE for taking a sustainability stewardship role. 77% of respondents anticipate increased spending on sustainability initiatives, viewing this as a strategy for reducing carbon footprint through decarbonization and sustainable building technologies.
CRE leaders need to be ready for radical shifts in workplace strategies, from fully remote setups to exploring differentiated compensation for on-site versus remote roles. A partnership approach with business to align organization goals to CRE expectations will pave the way for creating a future-ready CRE function.
This report highlights that experience enhancement, technology adoption, efficiency improvement, and sustainability partnerships are now essential CRE function mandates.
