The latest readings from our global office worker barometer indicates that half of the week (2.6 days) is still worked remotely. This forced adoption of remote working has created many opportunities, but it is also exposing new social risks. 41% of the Indian workforce are craving ‘real’ human interactions with colleagues.
A year after the start of Covid-19, our objective was to understand how employees are feeling today about this new way of working. According to the survey, 21% of the workforce in India does not want to work from home in the future, as opposed to 16% in October last year. On the other hand, 91% of the Indian workforce want to choose their schedules with growing flexibility in the recent months.
Working in an environment that puts health and well-being at the forefront is more important than ever. The need to connect is also gaining in importance, while more traditional levers such as ‘purpose in the job’ and ‘visibility’ are not the top priorities they used to be. ‘Work-life balance’ is the new employee motto, designated as the number 1 priority of the workforce in India today, ahead of a comfortable salary.
The office of the future will have to be human-centric, putting health and well-being of employees at the forefront. As we are emerging from the effects of the pandemic, it has become essential to create a human-centric framework with innovative technologies that caters to the evolving needs of employees in India.
